5,000 Orders Locked in One Week! BYD K-Car Sea Otter Takes Japan by Storm: Half of 10,000-Unit Year-End Target Done in 7 Days

According to reports, BYD's pure electric K-Car "RACCO" (Sea Otter), built exclusively for the Japanese market, has been selling like hotcakes since pre-sales began.
There are reports that the Sea Otter received over 5,000 locked-in deposit orders in its first week, directly completing half of its year-end target of 10,000 units. During its earlier debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, the prototype had already garnered 30,000意向 orders.
However, it is worth noting that BYD has not yet confirmed the Sea Otter's 5,000-unit first-week locked orders; the official announcement will prevail.
It is understood that the Sea Otter is BYD's first forward-developed model tailored to Japan's light vehicle regulations, with body dimensions of 3395x1475×1800mm and a wheelbase of 2490mm.

The new car comes in three versions: the entry-level model is equipped with a 22.4kWh Blade Battery, offering a WLTC range of 210 kilometers, priced at 2.145 million yen (approximately 88,800 yuan).
The mid-range and top-tier versions both feature a 35.84kWh battery with a range of 320 kilometers, priced at 2.398 million and 2.497 million yen respectively. After enjoying a 150,000-yen government subsidy, the entry-level price drops to 1.995 million yen.
Compared with同级 models in the Japanese market, the Sea Otter's 320-kilometer version makes it Japan's first light-duty pure electric vehicle to exceed 300 kilometers of WLTC range, while the recently refreshed Nissan Sakura only offers 180 kilometers.
Moreover, the Sea Otter differentiates itself through smart features and charging ecosystem, with configurations such as a floating central control screen, NFC key, and foot-sensing sliding side door that are almost unheard of in traditional Japanese K-Cars. This is one of the core reasons why the Sea Otter has been a bestseller since its launch.
