Major facelift, a refreshing new look! Official images of the new domestically-produced BMW X5/iX5 released: pure electric range exceeds 1000km

BMW China officially announced the new-generation BMW X5 and iX5, and revealed key information in advance: The X5 is equipped with the fourth-generation B58 3.0T inline-six engine, accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. The all-electric version boasts a CLTC range of over 1,000 kilometers, a long wheelbase of 3,165 mm, and dual electric leg rests in the rear.
Based on the official images, the domestic long-wheelbase X5 and iX5 largely maintain the overseas design, adopting a refreshed, rugged family language. The front end simplifies redundant curves, further widening the visual stance. Compared to the previous generation, it can be described as a complete transformation, offering a fresh look.
However, somewhat unexpectedly, the domestic version's daytime running lights do not use the overseas "X" shape but instead adopt a slanted design. While this makes it less "alternative," it does reduce brand recognition. Fortunately, the illuminated grille is retained, reflecting the new generation's design language.

Domestic version

Overseas version
The body retains the classic proportions of a mid-to-large luxury SAV, with optimized wheel arches and shoulder lines to enhance a sense of power. Different powertrain versions (pure electric and fuel) have dedicated body structure adaptations. Notably, the new door handles feature a very unique design, seemingly using capacitive sensing, though it is unclear if mechanical components are involved.
The rear features a layered rear bumper and slanted flat taillights, echoing the front lighting design. While creating a sporty presence, it retains the trunk's practical loading capacity.
The domestic version's interior also follows the overseas design, with the cabin upgraded to a minimalist luxury three-screen digital layout. The interaction system consists of a panoramic head-up display (HUD), a floating central control screen, and an independent front passenger entertainment screen, complemented by large hidden air vents and a full-width instrument panel ambient light strip. Physical buttons are significantly reduced, enhancing the sense of technology and luxury.

Overseas version
The seats feature optimized ergonomic wrapping and support, equipped with multi-directional electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, and other comfort functions. Combined with comprehensive improvements in cabin quietness and vibration damping, the ride experience meets both urban commuting and long-distance travel needs.
Thanks to the increased length and wheelbase, the domestic version offers significantly better rear-seat space, allowing for more comfort features, such as dual electric leg rests in the rear and a roof-mounted entertainment screen previously seen on the BMW 7 Series.
In terms of chassis and handling, the entire lineup is equipped with an upgraded xDrive intelligent electronically controlled all-wheel drive, paired with a new HoJ high-performance driving control unit. This enables millisecond-level coordinated adjustments of power, braking, and steering, with system response speed improved by 10 times, maintaining BMW's hallmark driving pleasure.
Intelligent driving is also upgraded. Although the official announcement did not specify, sources indicate that the domestic X5 and iX5 will feature an intelligent driving assistance system co-developed by BMW and Chinese suppliers, supporting urban and highway navigation assistance as well as fully automatic parking in all scenarios.
The powertrain lineup is a key highlight of this generation change. In addition to the officially revealed 3.0T L6 version, the fuel models are expected to offer a 2.0T + 48V mild hybrid system. For reference, the overseas version has a maximum power output of 294 kW.
Also for reference, the overseas all-electric iX5 is built on an 800V high-voltage platform, equipped with dual-motor all-wheel drive, a combined power output of 425 kW, and a 147 kWh large cylindrical battery. This is a hallmark configuration of BMW's sixth-generation pure electric technology, with a WLTP range of up to 845 km.
