The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: Smartphones and other terminals are now basically equipped with BeiDou positioning as standard! Short message service users exceed 55 million.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in recent years, the breadth and depth of BeiDou system applications across various industries have been expanding rapidly, with the penetration rate of comprehensive applications in key industries reaching approximately 90%.

It is understood that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially launched pilot work for large-scale BeiDou applications in 2024. As of the first half of this year, the 39 pilot cities have cumulatively promoted over 12 million units (sets) of BeiDou standalone positioning application terminals.

Among them, the mass consumer sector accounts for over 7.2 million units (sets), the industrial manufacturing sector over 4.6 million units (sets), and the integrated innovation sector over 1 million units (sets).

From January to June this year, the 39 cities added 2.96 million units of new BeiDou standalone positioning applications across various fields, a year-on-year increase of approximately 30%. Multiple cities have achieved 100% BeiDou application in specific areas such as shared two-wheelers, cruise taxis, official vehicles, and agricultural machinery.

Currently, the number of BeiDou terminal devices in key industries has approached 40 million units (sets), with a comprehensive application penetration rate of about 90% in key industries. Applications continue to deepen in sectors such as transportation, public security, and smart agriculture.

At the same time, BeiDou is accelerating its entry into the mass consumer sector, with BeiDou positioning now basically standard in consumer products such as smartphones, smart wearables, and vehicle terminals.

In the first half of 2026, total domestic mobile phone shipments reached 133 million units, with over 98% supporting BeiDou positioning.

As of the first half of 2026, the cumulative number of BeiDou short message users has exceeded 55 million.

By the end of 2025, cumulative shipments of domestically produced BeiDou-compatible chips and modules approached 2.6 billion pieces, and the total social inventory of various BeiDou-enabled terminal products exceeded 2.2 billion units (sets).
