Huawei Mate XT 2 undergoes a major design overhaul: U-shaped tri-fold with horizontal rear cameras

Huawei Mate XT 2, the new-generation triple-folding phone, has been officially announced and will launch at 14:30 on September 7.

This new device features significant design changes. According to the appearance schematic released by blogger "RuryRen," the Mate XT 2 adopts a rear camera setup similar to the Pura X View, with three cameras arranged horizontally at the top of the device.

Notably, the camera module is positioned in the central area of the back, as the new phone employs a brand-new U-shaped folding mechanism instead of the previous generation's Z-shape.

The overall design is somewhat similar to Samsung's G-shape, but with the opposite folding sequence—folding the left side first, then the right side. When folded, the screen is completely enclosed within the body, greatly enhancing protection.

Meanwhile, the Huawei Mate XT 2 is equipped with a standalone external display, allowing users to make calls, quickly reply to messages, or scan QR codes for payments without unfolding the large internal screen, significantly improving everyday convenience.

In terms of hardware, leaks suggest the Mate XT 2 will be powered by the Kirin 9050 series flagship chip, the world's first mass-produced mobile chipset featuring logic folding technology.

Adopting the "Tao's Law" evolution approach, the core logic circuits are upgraded to a dual-layer vertical stacking architecture, replacing traditional "geometric scaling" with "temporal miniaturization." This achieves a leap in performance and energy efficiency without relying on more advanced lithography processes.

Huawei states that the new Kirin chip delivers a 53.5% increase in transistor density, reaching a new industry high of 238 million transistors per square millimeter. This means 238 million transistors can be integrated per square millimeter of chip area, theoretically on par with Intel's 18A process and approaching TSMC's first-generation 3nm.
