Peak thrust of 35.2 tons, self-developed engine under parallel development! Shanghai: Concentrating full efforts on developing the C929 and others.

Shanghai recently announced its key work targets for the next phase of industrial development, placing the acceleration of new industrialization and the construction of a modern industrial system tailored to the city's positioning at the core.
According to the special industrial plan disclosed by Shanghai, the focus will be on expanding the full-chain civil aviation equipment industry, with core efforts to drive the serial iteration of the C909, mass production of the C919, and breakthroughs in core technology research for the C929. Resources will be concentrated on overcoming key supporting links such as aero engines, airborne systems, core composite materials, and advanced aviation manufacturing equipment, while accelerating the cultivation of a fully independent and controllable domestic large aircraft and low-altitude equipment industry chain.
Based on the research and development progress previously disclosed by COMAC, the C929 wide-body airliner, positioned for 290 seats, is entirely independently developed by the Chinese side. The project has formally completed its overall scheme review and fully transitioned into the detailed engineering design stage. Currently, multiple processes—including wind tunnel tests, fuselage segment static tests, and core system matching research—are advancing in parallel, with the overall development pace faster than originally expected.
The domestically developed CJ-2000 Yangtze River high-bypass-ratio engine, supporting the C929, has completed over 3,000 hours of full-condition altitude test bench testing, with a measured peak thrust of 35.2 tons. Its comprehensive performance directly benchmarks against leading international engines of the same class, fully clearing the most critical bottleneck in achieving independent power for large aircraft.
From regional jets to single-aisle trunk airliners and then to wide-body large aircraft, the full-chain layout, combined with the complete independent breakthrough in core aero engines, signifies that the domestic civil aviation industry has thoroughly completed the initial stage of technological exploration. It will soon form a fully independent, controllable, and globally competitive complete industrial cluster, directly breaking the long-standing monopoly of overseas manufacturers in the wide-body airliner market.
