After a 3-year ban, US government devices are once again allowed to use TikTok. Trump: I've been dominating the top spot on TikTok. Using TikTok won't bring the sky crashing down.

According to reports from Bloomberg, cited by Guoshi Direct Train, the Trump administration has lifted restrictions on using TikTok on federal government devices, as TikTok's U.S. operations no longer pose a national security threat after restructuring.

In a memorandum issued on Monday, the White House Office of Management and Budget revoked a directive from 2023 that banned the short-video service on government devices due to security concerns.

This follows a written opinion from the U.S. Department of Justice last month concluding that TikTok no longer meets the criteria for a "covered application" as defined in a law passed in 2022, which prohibited TikTok's use on federal platforms.

Notably, Trump previously claimed to be the most popular figure on TikTok.

On July 6, Trump publicly criticized so-called "China expert" Gordon Chang, saying his remarks on China were "always too negative," especially his advocacy for banning TikTok, likening it to "the sky is falling," which he called alarmist.

Trump said, "I've been number one on TikTok the whole time, and it was with TikTok's help that I won the election."

On July 28, Trump also showcased his TikTok achievements on social media, noting that the "#Trump" topic on TikTok had garnered 425 billion views.

In January of this year, TikTok's U.S. operations completed restructuring, establishing a new entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture, bringing in investors such as Oracle and Silver Lake Capital, with ByteDance retaining a minority stake. The new entity is responsible for data protection, algorithm security, content moderation, and software assurance for TikTok's U.S. operations.

Previously, according to Xinhua News Agency, since late 2022, the U.S. federal government and several states had ordered bans on using TikTok on government electronic devices, citing "data security" concerns.
