The Crosstour, discontinued for 9 years, is expected to be revived! Honda Accord hatchback SUV is expected to start production in 2029.

According to media reports on July 28, Honda Motor has decided to shift its development focus toward hybrid models after canceling its last all-electric vehicle project.

Honda plans to invest nearly $28 billion (approximately 189.8 billion RMB) by 2030 to launch 15 new hybrid models, which are expected to include a crossover-style Accord hatchback.

Insiders say Honda is planning an Accord hatchback with higher ground clearance, internally referred to as the "Accord SUV." The new model is expected to begin production in mid-2029 and may be built at Honda's Marysville plant in Ohio.

Honda is currently advancing the next-generation Accord, which is expected to debut alongside the new Accord sedan and will feature Honda's next-generation hybrid system. This system will later be used in models such as the Civic and CR-V.

According to reports, in May of this year, Honda showcased a prototype of a new sedan featuring a wedge-shaped body, higher ground clearance, and a hatchback design.

However, Honda did not reveal the name of the prototype, only confirming that the production version will be launched within the next two years, ahead of the expected release date of the "Accord SUV."

The next-generation Accord will feature slimmer headlights, redesigned taillights, a reworked grille, and a new rear-end design. The overall styling is expected to draw inspiration from Honda's 0 Series, while the interior will feature a larger infotainment screen.

It is understood that Honda launched the Accord Crosstour in 2010, which was named the Geshitu in China.

Based on the eighth-generation Accord, it featured higher ground clearance, a fastback roofline, and a large hatchback tailgate, offering four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines as well as front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations, but it failed to gain market traction.

Ultimately, the model was discontinued in 2017, and the advancement of this project may bring more possibilities for the revival of the Crosstour.
