The world's largest 2.8 trillion parameter large model Kimi K3 officially open-sources tonight: Its performance ranks firmly in the top three.

domestic large model company Moon's Dark Side released its new flagship large model Kimi K3 on July 16. The official statement indicated it would be open-sourced on July 27, and it is set to debut tonight.

Kimi created a Kimi K3 model page on the Hugging Face official account and started a weight release countdown. The page shows the model is expected to go live at 11:00 PM Beijing time on July 27, i.e., tonight at 11 PM.

This timing is also suitable for US local time, apparently aiming to give Americans who just started work a bit of a shock.

Kimi K3 is a mixture-of-experts (MoE) large model with a total parameter count of 2.8 trillion and a context window of 1 million tokens. It is the world's first super-large model at the 3 trillion parameter level released to the open-source community.

In the official test results, Kimi K3, with its strong comprehensive intelligence level, closely approaches the two international giants, ranking third globally, only behind Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol.

However, in multiple core sub-sectors such as programming, Agent, and visual understanding, Kimi K3 has already gone head-to-head with these two top-tier closed-source models, and even achieved a strong overtake in some cutting-edge benchmarks.

Currently, the main channels to use K3 are the official website and API, but Kimi faces insufficient computing power, leading to frequent errors when services increase. After open-sourcing, netizens worldwide will have more options and can even create customized versions of the K3 large model.

However, deploying the Kimi K3 large model is no easy task. It is said to require two sets of platforms like B300, with a complete setup costing nearly 30 million yuan in hardware investment.
