HarmonyOS 6: Official Release Coming October 22

According to recent leaks, the Huawei Mate 80 series, expected to debut next month, will be the first devices to ship with the official version of HarmonyOS 6. The upcoming launch event may also reveal the release schedule for the new flagship lineup.

Huawei has already rolled out multiple developer preview builds of HarmonyOS 6, and began limited public testing for early adopters last month.

Major Upgrades: Connectivity, AI, and User Experience

HarmonyOS 6 introduces a completely new connected and intelligent experience, featuring improved ease of use, lower latency, and enhanced cross-device performance.

The system also includes the HMAF (HarmonyOS Multi-Agent Framework), which enables smarter, more seamless upgrades for HarmonyOS apps and services. This framework enhances natural, efficient, and coordinated human-computer interaction across the ecosystem.

Huawei’s Xiaoyi smart assistant will also see significant improvements, offering more proactive and context-aware services tailored to user needs.

“NEXT” Branding Removed

Notably, testers have reported that the “NEXT” suffix—previously used in earlier developer versions—has been dropped. The system is now officially named HarmonyOS 6.0, reflecting Huawei’s confidence in the maturity of its native ecosystem.

HarmonyOS NEXT was first introduced at Huawei Developer Conference 2023, symbolizing the company’s transition to a fully native HarmonyOS platform. With the ecosystem now largely complete, Huawei no longer needs the “NEXT” label—making HarmonyOS 6 the true next-generation release.
