The ultimate form of tri-folding! Huawei Mate XT 2 understands ergonomics better: more comfortable to use than Samsung.

Yu Chengdong, Huawei's Executive Director, Chairman of the Product Investment Review Committee, and Chairman of the Terminal BG, has unveiled the new tri-fold Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design.

Unlike the previous S-shaped tri-fold design, the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design adopts a G-shaped tri-fold structure similar to Samsung's. Its two screens fold inward, completely enveloping the main display, effectively avoiding the risk of scratches or damage from exposing the main screen, significantly enhancing the device's overall durability.

Although Huawei's and Samsung's tri-fold design approaches are broadly similar, there are still some subtle differences between the two.

Blogger Dingjiao Digital pointed out that Samsung's Galaxy Z Trifold places the external screen on the second panel, with the camera Deco on the third panel. When folded shut, users need to flip the device to operate the external screen, which is inconvenient. In contrast, the Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is more thoughtfully engineered, clearly better aligned with ergonomics, allowing users to use it naturally right out of the box.

Meanwhile, the new device retains the practical configuration of the Mate X series foldables, featuring a standalone external screen. For high-frequency operations such as making calls, quickly replying to messages, and scanning QR codes for payments, users can complete these tasks without unfolding the large inner screen, balancing the large-screen experience with portability.

As Huawei's next-generation tri-fold flagship, the Mate XT 2 has undergone a comprehensive iteration in form factor, design aesthetics, and core performance, while also addressing key challenges such as foldable durability.

This new product is scheduled for official release on September 7. Given the significant rise in memory prices, its starting price may be adjusted upward accordingly (note: the previous tri-fold Mate XTs had a starting price of 17,999 yuan). As the release date approaches, more product details are expected to be unveiled gradually.
