More adept at Chinese roads than Tesla FSD! Yu Kai declares: Horizon HSD is definitely stronger

Recently, at the launch event for the SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA 5S at the 2026 Chengdu International Auto Show, Horizon Robotics founder and CEO Yu Kai stated that many people compare the company's HSD one-stage end-to-end algorithm model to a "Chinese version of FSD," but he dared to say that Horizon HSD absolutely understands Chinese road conditions better than Tesla's FSD.

Yu Kai also said that the empowerment of Horizon's intelligent driving infrastructure will allow millions of Volkswagen owners to experience "the best intelligent driving."

The SAIC Volkswagen ID.ERA 5S was officially launched at the Chengdu Auto Show, priced between 89,900 and 119,900 yuan, making it the first sedan under the Volkswagen brand globally to feature urban NOA functionality.

The vehicle is equipped with the "Yunzhixing" intelligent assisted driving system, jointly developed by SAIC Volkswagen and CARIZON, deeply customized based on Horizon's Journey series chips and HSD algorithm, supporting full-scenario pilot assistance for both urban NOA and highway NOA, and comes with 26 active safety features.

CARIZON is a joint venture established in 2022 between Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics, with Volkswagen holding 60% and Horizon holding 40%, a registered capital of 900 million euros, and headquartered in Beijing.

In July 2026, the two parties further deepened their cooperation. CARIZON will accelerate the development of a unified AI driving solution for Volkswagen Group China through a white-box licensing model, leveraging Horizon's AI foundation model capabilities, covering L3 and L4 autonomous driving.
