Apple's highest-end notebook! MacBook Ultra is about to debut: first equipped with OLED touch screen.

Apple is launching a brand new high-end notebook product line after five years, most likely named MacBook Ultra, positioned above the existing MacBook Pro.

Originally planned for release this year, the device may be delayed to early 2027 due to the global memory chip shortage. According to rumors, mass production is expected to start at the end of this year, with twelve core upgrades, and it will be the first Mac series model to implement many technologies.

This product comes in 14-inch and 16-inch versions, with chassis codes K114 and K116. The whole machine is thinner and lighter than the current MacBook Pro, relying on the OLED screen to reduce chassis thickness. Practical ports such as HDMI, MagSafe, and SD card are all retained and will not be removed.

The screen uses a dual-layer tandem hybrid OLED panel supplied by Samsung, the same technology as the iPad Pro. Contrast, color, and power consumption are all superior to mini-LED. At the same time, with narrower bezels, the screen size is slightly increased.

This machine is Apple's first Mac to support screen touch, positioned as a touch auxiliary rather than a primary operation method. It retains the traditional keyboard and trackpad, paired with a reinforced hinge to prevent shaking when clicking the screen.

At the system level, macOS 27 is deeply adapted, with large-size touch controls added globally, iPad-style zoom and swipe gestures. Many code details in the system also confirm the existence of the touch function.

The notch above the screen is removed, replaced by a small front-facing punch hole and the same Dynamic Island as the iPhone, which can dynamically display real-time information such as Siri, battery level, and AirPods connection.

In terms of performance, Apple directly canceled the M6 Pro and M6 Max development plans. The first model will feature the M5 Pro/M5 Max currently used in the MacBook Pro. The M7 series chip, optimized specifically for AI computing power, will be equipped in the late 2027 iterative Ultra model.

In addition, the device also plans to have a built-in cellular 5G module, using Apple's self-developed C1X or new-generation C2 baseband. It will also be the first Mac platform device to support an independent mobile network, though this feature is still subject to change.

The new product is positioned as the highest-end in the entire series, with pricing higher than the current MacBook Pro. Previously, Gurman pointed out that when Apple first introduced OLED screens on the iPhone X in 2017 and the iPad Pro in 2024, prices increased by about 20% in both cases. The MacBook Ultra will likely continue this trend, further pushing the MacBook Pro series closer to the high-end market.
