Huawei's self-developed system is a success! HarmonyOS 6 terminal count exceeds 80 million: Major upgrade coming in September

At the Xiangjie G9 and HarmonyOS Smart Travel new product launch event, Huawei's Executive Director and Chairman of the Terminal BG, Yu Chengdong, officially announced that the number of HarmonyOS 6 terminal devices has surpassed 80 million. This marks the first time a Huawei executive has publicly provided official installation data for HarmonyOS 6, confirming the estimates previously made by third-party statistics platforms.

Looking back at HarmonyOS's growth trajectory, Yu Chengdong revealed during a livestream in March that the number of terminal devices running HarmonyOS 5 and HarmonyOS 6 stood at 47 million at that time, with expectations of surpassing the 100 million mark before winter this year.

At the Huawei Developer Conference in June, the number of HarmonyOS 6 terminal devices was officially announced to have exceeded 66 million. By early July, it crossed 70 million, and by mid-August, it had surpassed 80 million. The jump from 70 million to 80 million took only about 47 days, with an average daily increase of over 170,000 devices.

What's even more noteworthy is another revelation Yu Chengdong made at the launch event: mainstream apps such as WeChat and Douyin are set to receive major upgrades in September.

Currently, the HarmonyOS version of WeChat covers core features and maintains high-frequency iterations, while the HarmonyOS version of Douyin has surpassed 18 million installations, with continuous improvements to local life services such as nearby listings and group buying. Further upgrades to WeChat and Douyin will directly address the two most user-perceived experience gaps in the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

In terms of market share, Counterpoint data shows that in the first quarter of 2026, HarmonyOS captured a 19% share of China's smartphone operating system market, officially surpassing Apple's iOS at 17% and firmly securing its position as the second-largest mobile operating system in China.

On the ecosystem front, the global HarmonyOS developer community has surpassed 11 million, with over 380,000 apps and services available in the app marketplace, and a 97% adaptation rate among the TOP 100 apps.

With about 20 million devices still needed to reach the year-end target of 100 million, and based on the current growth rate of 170,000 devices per day, combined with the boost from new device launches in the fourth quarter, the year-end target is essentially within reach.
