Huawei's new Wing-Style tri-fold phone, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, will officially launch on September 7. Today, He Gang, CEO of Huawei's Terminal BG, stated that the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is the culmination of极致 aesthetics, craftsmanship, and innovation. From the official teaser video, the rear camera area retains the iconic octagonal module design of its predecessor, but the folding structure has undergone significant changes—shifting from the previous "Z" fold to a "G" fold, and adding a separate external screen, allowing the phone to function normally even when fully folded. Compared to the "Z" fold, the "G" structure provides more complete protection for the flexible inner screen in the folded state, offering advantages in scratch resistance and impact resistance. In terms of appearance, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design features a purple color option with a distinct fiber-woven texture on the back panel, presenting different visual textures under varying lighting conditions. The device adopts a left-right folding "Wing-Style tri-fold" design, with both side screens able to unfold outward. According to reports, the symmetrical central-axis structure ensures a more balanced weight distribution, further enhancing the grip experience when unfolded. Richard Yu, Huawei's Executive Director, Chairman of the Product Investment Review Committee, and Chairman of the Terminal BG, previously stated that the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design houses both inner and outer screens within an ultra-slim 3.5mm body, remaining the thinnest and largest foldable phone on the market when fully unfolded. For reference, the first-generation Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design launched in September 2024 with a starting price of 19,999 yuan, becoming the world's first mass-produced tri-fold phone. It features a 10.2-inch display when fully unfolded, offering a new product form between phones and tablets, and marking Huawei's first mass-produced model exploring the tri-fold route.
