China's second-largest mobile operating system will accomplish a remarkable feat this year! Huawei's Xu Zhijun: HarmonyOS ecosystem to surpass 100 million users by year-end.

This year, HarmonyOS is set to achieve a landmark milestone in its development journey, with the installed base of HarmonyOS 6 users about to surpass the 100 million mark, fully unleashing the growth momentum of the entire ecosystem.

At the HarmonyOS Ecosystem Conference 2026, Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun unveiled the latest ecosystem progress, revealing that the total number of native HarmonyOS apps has exceeded 100,000. On mobile devices running HarmonyOS, users can directly access over 400,000 apps across various categories, with the richness of the app ecosystem rapidly being filled in.

As of August 20, the cumulative number of devices running HarmonyOS 6 has surpassed 80 million units. Based on the current weekly growth rate, it is projected to comfortably cross the 100 million user threshold in the fourth quarter of this year. This milestone also signifies that the HarmonyOS ecosystem will break through the 100 million user scale by the end of this year, officially exiting its incubation phase and entering a new stage of accelerated growth.

Liu Yulin, Director of the Information and Communication Technology Development Department at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated clearly during a media Q&A at a related public event that HarmonyOS has officially become the world's third-largest mobile operating system, securing a top-three position in the global mobile OS arena.

Currently, the cumulative number of ecosystem devices derived from OpenHarmony has exceeded 1.35 billion units. Specialized operating systems tailored for vertical sectors, such as GongHong and YiHong, have achieved large-scale deployment in B2B scenarios including smart vehicles, smart home appliances, metallurgy, and petrochemicals, with the ecosystem advantage of full-scenario connectivity rapidly taking root across industries.

From ecosystem cultivation to large-scale implementation, HarmonyOS has accomplished in just a few short years what other mainstream mobile operating systems took over a decade to achieve in user accumulation. Once it crosses the 100 million user threshold, the return on investment for app developers will further improve, which in turn will drive more exclusive, high-quality content into the ecosystem.
