China has approved small batches of NVIDIA H200 chips, with ByteDance and Tencent each receiving 10,000 units.

According to media reports, Nvidia's H200 chips have begun entering the Chinese market in small batches.

Sources familiar with the matter say ByteDance and Tencent have each received approximately 10,000 H200 processors in recent weeks, with several other Chinese tech companies expected to receive similar supplies in the short term.

However, although the U.S. has approved up to 100,000 H200 chips per Chinese company, the actual number approved for release so far remains limited to small-scale batches, with overall supply still strictly constrained.

Last month, Chinese AI company Moonshot AI released its K3 model, whose performance is approaching the most advanced levels in the U.S. Subsequently, companies such as Alibaba and DeepSeek have also rolled out models with comparable intelligence, indicating that the technology gap between leading Chinese and American labs continues to narrow.

In terms of computing power usage strategy, Chinese labs are increasingly using domestic chips for AI inference tasks (such as real-time response generation), while the model training phase—which involves more complex computational processes like building knowledge structures and pattern recognition—still relies primarily on Nvidia chips.

As of now, neither Nvidia, ByteDance, nor Tencent has publicly responded to the aforementioned supply situation.
