Benchmarking against diesel vehicles! Geely's solid-state battery targets 500Wh/kg: aiming for a range of over 1,000 kilometers.

According to reports, Geely is currently advancing preparations for the practical application of solid-state batteries in vehicles. This new battery type boasts an energy density of up to 500Wh/kg, with storage capacity roughly double that of its Golden Brick battery, and the company hopes to achieve driving range comparable to diesel vehicles.

Vehicles equipped with this battery are expected to exceed 1,000 kilometers on a single charge, with a designed service life of up to 1 million kilometers.

Compared to mainstream liquid lithium batteries on the market, solid-state batteries offer multiple standout advantages. They enable lighter vehicle weight, eliminate volatile liquid chemical substances, effectively reduce safety risks from thermal runaway, and further optimize overall charge-discharge performance.

According to the plan, Geely aims to begin pilot installations of solid-state batteries in 2027, with Volvo, as the group's premium brand, having a high probability of being among the first to adopt this technology.

However, pilot deployment does not equate to large-scale mass production. The industry generally believes that developing solid-state battery prototypes is moderately challenging, but achieving large-scale industrial production still faces numerous technical and cost hurdles.

Geely has yet to disclose the specific technical roadmap for its solid-state batteries, and there is no clear information on which other group brands—such as Zeekr, Lynk & Co, or Polestar—will participate in the pilots or which markets they will target.
