Apple plans to launch a new Mac mini: skipping the M5 and featuring the M6 chip.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple is accelerating preparations for the release of a new generation Mac mini desktop computer, marking the first major update to the product line in nearly two years.
In terms of core configuration, the new Mac mini may directly feature the yet-to-be-announced M6 chip, rather than the M5 that was previously expected by outsiders.
The current model still uses the M4 series chip, which means this upgrade will skip an entire generation, jumping directly to the M6 platform.
In terms of release timing, this new Mac mini is a key part of Apple's product lineup for the second half of this year, alongside new Apple Watch, AirPods, and a smart home device with a screen and facial recognition support. The overall release timing is likely to be earlier than the September iPhone launch event.
Additionally, the OLED version of the iPad mini is still expected to debut in October, with upgrades to other Mac products like the new iMac and MacBook Pro to follow. Looking further ahead, Apple plans to launch a Home Hub tablet, an upgraded Apple TV 4K, and a new HomePod mini in 2026.
