In the first half of the year, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 133 million units! Over 98% support BeiDou positioning, and BeiDou's performance and accuracy have already surpassed GPS.

According to CCTV News, since the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially launched the pilot work for large-scale Beidou application in 2024, the scale-up of Beidou applications has continued to accelerate.

By the first half of 2026, the 39 pilot cities had cumulatively promoted more than 12 million units (sets) of Beidou standalone positioning application terminals.

Among them, the mass consumer sector accounted for over 7.2 million units (sets), the industrial manufacturing sector over 4.6 million units (sets), and the integrated innovation sector over 1 million units (sets).

Li Xiayu, Chief Engineer of the Technology and Standards Research Institute at the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, noted that the installed base of Beidou terminal devices in key industries has now approached 40 million units (sets), with the comprehensive application penetration rate in key industries at approximately 90%. Applications in transportation, public security, smart agriculture, and other fields continue to deepen.

At the same time, Beidou is also accelerating its entry into the mass consumer market.

Currently, consumer electronic products such as smartphones, smart wearables, and vehicle-mounted terminals have essentially achieved standard Beidou positioning functionality.

Data shows that in the first half of 2026, total domestic mobile phone shipments reached 133 million units, of which over 98% support Beidou positioning, indicating that Beidou positioning has become one of the foundational capabilities of the domestic smartphone market.

Beyond positioning services, the user base of Beidou short message functionality is also expanding rapidly.

As of the first half of 2026, the cumulative number of Beidou short message users has exceeded 55 million.

On the industry chain side, as of the end of 2025, cumulative shipments of domestically produced Beidou-compatible chips and modules had approached 2.6 billion units, and the total social installed base of various terminal products with Beidou functionality exceeded 2.2 billion units (sets).

According to previous reports from Securities Times, Liu Jingnan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, once stated that Beidou has now achieved global coverage, surpassing GPS in global service performance and accuracy. This is a remarkable achievement, but it is only a new starting point on a long march.
