Huawei's Xu Zhijun: The true mark of HarmonyOS ecosystem's success is its ability to go global and secure a place in the international market.

At the HarmonyOS Ecosystem Conference 2026, Huawei's rotating chairman Xu Zhijun publicly announced the latest operational progress of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, clearly setting a key milestone target of officially surpassing 100 million users within the year.
According to the data he disclosed on site, the total number of HarmonyOS native applications has now exceeded 100,000, and across all mobile terminals powered by HarmonyOS, the total number of various adapted applications directly accessible to users has surpassed 400,000. The ecosystem richness shortfall that was once widely concerned about is being rapidly addressed at a pace far exceeding industry expectations.
At the conference, Xu Zhijun, Huawei's deputy chairman and rotating chairman, delivered a keynote speech titled "Building the HarmonyOS Ecosystem Is a Marathon Without a Finish Line," systematically reviewing the achievements of the HarmonyOS ecosystem over the past few years and outlining the long-term development plans going forward.
In his speech, Xu specifically addressed the global expansion strategy for the HarmonyOS ecosystem, clearly stating that the core hallmark of a truly successful new mobile ecosystem must be its ability to go global and secure its own place in the global consumer electronics market, rather than being confined to a single regional market.
Huawei looks forward to collaborating with the OpenHarmony open-source community, the GIIC alliance, domestic internet application companies, various smart device manufacturers, and global partners. The plan is to first carry out pilot implementations in countries and regions with suitable conditions, and after validating feasible models and accumulating mature implementation experience, ultimately achieve the global-scale development of the HarmonyOS ecosystem, providing the global smart terminal industry with a third choice beyond the two existing mainstream systems.
Prior to this ecosystem conference, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had already stated in a media Q&A session at a related public event that the HarmonyOS mobile operating system has officially become the world's third-largest mobile operating system, firmly securing a top-three position in the global mobile OS arena, with the ecosystem's influence no longer limited to the domestic market.
This also means that the HarmonyOS ecosystem has officially crossed the critical survival threshold. The massive user base will in turn attract more developers to join the ecosystem, creating a positive feedback loop of ecosystem growth. The path for global expansion is now clearly laid out, and the long-standing duopoly of the global mobile OS market by two overseas systems is facing a true challenger.
