EU Artificial Intelligence Act new regulations take effect: Chatbots must clearly identify themselves as AI

According to CCTV News, the European Commission recently announced that the European Commission's AI Office will jointly enforce the relevant provisions of the Artificial Intelligence Act together with the competent authorities of member states, and the new artificial intelligence transparency requirements will also take effect at the same time.
Under the new rules, certain artificial intelligence systems must clearly inform users that they are interacting with AI, and indicate whether the relevant content was generated or modified by artificial intelligence.
Among them, interactive AI systems such as chatbots must proactively disclose their AI identity to prevent users from mistaking them for real people.
For deepfake images, videos, and audio content generated or edited using artificial intelligence, relevant institutions and platforms must provide clear labeling.
At the same time, content generated or modified by AI must also carry machine-readable markers to facilitate subsequent recognition, tracking, and verification.
The European Commission stated that the above measures aim to reduce the risk of AI technology being used for deception, misinformation, and manipulation, help the public more accurately determine the source of content, and provide enterprises with clearer compliance requirements and implementation pathways.
In addition, the European Commission also released the list of the first batch of institutions to sign the "Code of Conduct on Transparency of AI-Generated Content," with more than 180 institutions having signed on.
It is understood that this code of conduct aims to advance the implementation of the provisions of the Artificial Intelligence Act regarding the transparency of AI-generated content, guiding AI companies, content platforms, and relevant institutions to establish unified and enforceable content labeling mechanisms.
